About Us

Sustaining North Berwick is a group of local people who want a future for our town in which both people and nature thrive. We are concerned about climate change and the nature crisis, and the effects these have on human health and happiness.

We bring people together to share ideas and knowledge, and to act, on topics that matter to them, including wildlife-friendly gardening, beach cleans, and influencing relevant public policies. We raise awareness of ways to improve North Berwick’s environmental sustainability, and collaborate with community groups and businesses that share our concerns.

Sustaining North Berwick is a constituted voluntary organisation established in 2019. Our constitutional aims are:

(1) To raise awareness in the North Berwick area of the challenges posed by climate change, resource depletion, loss of biodiversity and environmental degradation.

(2) To encourage activity and contributions from all sectors of the local communities in the development of a locally resilient and sustainable, zero-carbon, zero-waste future for the North Berwick area.

(3) To build collective purpose and action.

(4) To collaborate with other organisations or businesses with similar aims to achieve these objects.

We run a Climate Cafe every last Saturday of the month and we welcome anyone to join us for a chat over a cuppa and a discussion on all the latest issues and ideas (see Events page for dates).

We also have a core Working Group who meet monthly and take forward our projects.

However key to our success is working with other organisations across the town, the wider ward and the East Lothian area to develop sustainable thinking and actions.
