Current activities

There are a wide range of sustainability related activities happening in and around North Berwick initiated by local groups and individuals, many of whom Sustaining NB works closely with. We plan to list all the activities and projects taking place (including but not limited to Sustaining NB projects). If you have any to add please get in touch.

Social Gatherings: Climate Cafe

We are part of the Climate Café® Network, a global movement that encourages inclusive, welcoming spaces for people to come together with a cuppa to chat and act for our climate. We meet every last Saturday of the month – see events page for dates.

Local Food Directory

Sustaining NB has produced a Directory of local food outlets in the area which is being launched at the AGM on 7th May 2024.

Climate and Nature Bookclub

The Climate and Nature Book Club is a small group that selects one book to read and then meets to discuss on the last Monday of the month. New members are very welcome – see events page for meeting dates.

Wildlife Gardening

Wildlife Gardening Group is all about making gardens and greenspaces more wildlife friendly. The group meets monthly, spring to autumn for a cuppa, chat and wander round a garden. See events page for future gatherings.

Tree Planting in NB

SNB has joined forces with NB in Bloom and NB Trust to plant hundreds of native trees in the NB Trust Park with the help of lots of volunteers.

Sustainable Tourism

SNB has written a draft Sustainable Tourism strategy that we hope will inform future decisions about how tourism operates and develops in the town.  Link to doc….

Policy

SNB responds to national and local East Lothian Council consultations ensuring that sustainability, biodiversity and climate impact are fully considered.

Community Orchard

In the spring of 2023 a community orchard of 50 fruit trees was planted by NBIB and a team of volunteers in NB Trust Park. Regular volunteer days are run to look after the orchard and maintain the trees.

Big Belly Bins

The Big Belly Bins was a collaborative project involving Sustaining NB, East Lothian Council, Scottish Seabird Centre, Community Council, Coastal Area Partnership, NB in Bloom and Caledonian Horticulture to tackle litter issues in the town in a unique way.

These are the current projects Sustaining NB is aware of. Some of them Sustaining NB is leading on, many are being led by others. Sustaining NB aims to highlight all work to commit to the green agenda happening locally to. If you have a project you would like to be included here, please get in touch. We very much want to support linkages between relevant bodies so email [email protected] in the first instance.
